Dr. Jon Thompson, Director
LPC-S, NCC, NCSC

Life is about different things to different people.

To me, life is about making a difference. I want to add as much value and meaning to other people's lives as I can. I really enjoy helping them make sense of their suffering and overcome their problems.

My first job was as a Triage Counselor at a psychiatric hospital in the Denver, CO area. My wife and I moved back to the Kansas City area in 2005 and I worked as a School Counselor for 8 years. In 2013 I started Peace Partnership, a non-profit counseling practice that helps low-income families and kids. Being the Executive Director of Peace Partnership is my full-time job, and Genesis Counseling is my side gig. I started Genesis Counseling in 2016 to help people who don't fit the financial guidelines of Peace Partnership.

Regina Schweizer, MA, LPC

I started working at Genesis Counseling in 2023. With a diverse background in mental health and support services, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of settings. My experience includes supporting individuals at a resource pregnancy center, leading trauma recovery groups on college campuses, and working with teens in an inpatient care facility. I value the opportunity to guide young people through challenges to help them build resilience and optimism. One of the most rewarding moments in my work is seeing someone express excitement and hope for their future after overcoming difficult situations. I believe children are a gift from God and I love to not only help youth but also parents of any age child gain the tools to feel more confident and joyful in their role.

I am a certified Brain Health Professional, which is training in Dr. Daniel Amen’s work. I am dedicated to helping my clients feel healthy biologically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually.

In 2016, I had the joy of marrying my amazing husband, and since then, I’ve been deeply committed to growing in my understanding of marriage and the unique needs of couples. I am trained in Level 1 & 2 of the Gottman Method and I love using this evidence-based approach alongside other effective methods to help couples thrive. Whether supporting individuals or guiding couples through challenges, I’m passionate about helping people build stronger, healthier relationships.

I look forward to meeting you and walking with you on your unique journey!

Kevin Cohan, MA, PLPC

I joined Genesis Counseling in 2024. I began my career working at a residential treatment program a number of years ago. I helped teenage girls work through their past trauma and learn how to navigate relationships in a healthy way. Just a few years ago, I felt the calling to continue to pursue my passion to help others and achieved my Masters in Biblical Counseling at Calvary University.

I believe that the mind, body, emotions and spirit are all connected; therefore all should receive some positive attention. I met my beautiful wife, Jaime, at College of the Ozarks. We have been married for 16 years and have four amazing children together. We just had our fourth a year ago (we got our first girl - woo hoo!). I love helping at-risk youth feel heard and understood. I also really enjoy helping married couples work together toward a common goal. Can't wait to meet you.

FUN FACTS:

  • I have an identical twin brother (I'm five minutes older..lol).

  • I have never broken a bone.

  • I eat my pizza with no cheese.

  • I love superhero movies!

  • As far as sharks go- Jaws ruined me for life.

  • M.A., Biblical Counseling, 2023
