It started as the other half of a non-profit.
Dr. Jon Thompson started Peace Partnership in 2013, a non-profit counseling practice for families and kids on lower incomes. It is still his full-time job. The trouble with a practice built around financial guidelines is that plenty of people fall on the wrong side of them, and they were being turned away from something they needed.
So in 2016, he started Genesis at the same address, for exactly those people. It is a private-pay practice, it has never billed insurance, and it has stayed at one office with a group of hand-picked counselors, because that allows the person answering the phone to know exactly who has openings this week.
